Jabber
Jabber is the modern way of communication. It is a distributed system, has strong encryption, interesting services and is open source. BoxBox is running its own Jabberserver available to the public.
Are you unfimilar with Jabber? I’ve written a small tutorial that shows how to setup an account with BoxBox. Read it now! :-).
Interested in using Jabber at BoxBox? Since BoxBox has closed the in-band registration feature due to spam-bots, you have to sign-up via our web registration form. Please go to the registration page to proceed.
BoxBox Jabberserver information
You can reach the BoxBox Jabberserver at boxbox.org:5222 (Start-TLS) and :5223 (Legacy TLS). Account registration is open and available. Please use our new web registration form, since in-band registrations have been disabled due to spam reasons.
We’re also providing a Multi User Chat (MUC) which can be reached at conference.boxbox.org. Together with that, we have modules for PubSub and a vCard Search. Just checkout your client’s service discovery to find out about all the active modules.
BoxBox is using ejabberd on a Debian Lenny box.
To keep the Jabberserver efficient and clean, accounts which aren’t used for at least four months will be deleted. Don’t fret, you’ll get a notice before your account really gets deleted.
To prevent your account from being deleted while you’re away for a longer time (for example a holiday trip), please write a short message to the administration.
